So, as I was sitting around, animeidiot and I decided to try to get some speedpainting done. We networked around on opencanvas, making random thumbnails... and then we took one of the designs and went off to go make a speedpaint based generally on the design in the thumbnail (a 2man, 4leg, walking tank thingy.. those never get old). This was what came out for me. Done in painter 9.

Ugh! I try so hard to get this painterly feel and energy into my own concepts. But I'm afraid I fail miserably. I'm jealous, but keep up the good work.

The subject matter is spiffy, and the rough rendering adds an expressive, kinetic appeal. Compositionally, I find that the background really helps to keep things interesting. This is partly due to the diagonal change in value, but most of this success comes from that moonlike structure at the top left, which provides a tertiary focal point to keep the eye from stagnating.
